BJP Must Explain Its ‘Maha’ Debacles in UP and Rajasthan

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that the Congress had improved its vote share and seats in Telangana in the Lok Sabha polls as against the Assembly elections held six months back. Speaking to media persons in Delhi on Saturday, Reddy said that they had also wrested the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly seat and the graduates MLC seat from the BRS in the byelections, which showed people’s trust in the Congress.

He stated that there was no truth in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the Congress government had lost the trust of Telangana people, which is why they had elected eight BJP MPs.

Revanth Reddy claimed that the Congress showing in Telangana in the Lok Sabha elections was far better than those by BJP governments in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

“We had 39.5 per cent vote share in Assembly polls while it shot up to 41 per cent in the Lok Sabha elections, which is a reflection of the people’s confidence in our administration. In contrast, the latest elections saw the BJP get 35 per cent vote share while it was 16 per cent for the BRS.”

“Moreover, our tally in the Lok Sabha more than doubled from the three we had in 2019. In addition, we won the Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly seat and the graduate MLC Khammam-Warangal-Nalgonda seat in the bypolls, both of which were held by the BRS. Where does the question of Congress losing the trust of people in Telangana arise,” Revanth Reddy asked.

Reddy said that on the contrary, going by their performance in the Lok Sabha elections, it was the BJP governments that had lost the trust of people from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

“The Congress and its I.N.D.I.A. bloc partners performed better than BJP in those states. Our vote share and seats increased significantly in those BJP-ruled states. BJP leaders should explain why their vote share and seats have come down and why people had lost trust in BJP,” Reddy said.

“We could work for only 100 days before the election code came into force in mid-March. In these 100 days, we delivered five out of six guarantees that were promised during the Assembly elections. We sought votes based on our performance in 100 days. People enabled us win eight of 17 Lok Sabha seats and secure the highest vote share in the state. This is a clear proof of people endorsing Congress government’s performance.”
