Savour the world over the next two weekends without leaving Windsor-Essex.

The Multicultural Council of Windsor-Essex’s annual Carrousel of the Nations has launched, offering a vibrant array of cultural experiences, including food, dance and music.

“Learning about people’s cultures, their history, and their traditions is such a fantastic thing that brings people together,” said MCC community engagement manager Scott Despins.

“Once we truly understand people, that’s when acceptance, partnership, and friendship can grow. This festival is a spotlight of that.”

The 2024 edition of the festival runs this weekend and next, with 30 international villages spread across Windsor and Essex County — 17 villages this weekend and 20 with their offerings from June 21 to 23.

The seven new villages this year include Canadian, Middle Eastern, and Persian villages in Windsor; a Croatian Village in Maidstone; a Dutch Village in Kingsville; and Portuguese and Mexican villages in Leamington. There’s another Mexican village in downtown Windsor at 400 Erie St. E.

Each village showcases food and festivities from different nations, offering a unique opportunity to explore diverse global cultures. The Macedonian Village on Howard Avenue will also feature displays showcasing the cities of that country.

The MCC notes that each village has specific days and hours of operation, locations, programs, and menus. Not all are open both weekends, nor for every day of a given weekend.
